Jason began his insurance career in 2005. He had been a client of the Conover agency since he was sixteen years old and always found the business intriguing. One day he was in the office and struck up a conversation with the agency owner, Smitty Bolick, who shared with him how fulfilling insurance can be as a career. Fast forward three months and Jason was working for the agency and then three years later he owned the agency. After 22 years working in my family’s copier business, on July 1, 2012, I was given the opportunity to start a new career as an Associate Agent at Jason Herman Agency / Nationwide Insurance. As a commercial agent, I was able to continue to work closely with businesses in the community while building new relationships and strengthening old ones. As the Jason Herman Agency migrated to an independent agency, I have been able to provide clients with more carrier options and broader coverages to best protect their business. Over the past 10 years, I am overwhelmed with gratitude in business owners who put trust in me to insure their business with the proper coverage they need.
The reason I chose to be in the insurance industry is because I genuinely enjoy helping people. Insurance is a field that you can truly impact people’s lives in a positive way when life’s unforeseen events occur. In my early twenties I left my five-year banking background to begin an exciting new career venture in Insurance, with a position that was created just for me, in an industry I knew very little about. I began my insurance career in the “background” reviewing policies as I learned all the ins and outs, what insurance really means, and why it is so important. It wasn’t too long into my new career that I decided I wanted to do more than just be in the background, so I decided to get my insurance license. I began a journey helping and getting to know our personal lines clients while getting cross trained with our growing commercial team. I truly enjoyed this experience. However, after seven years in personal lines I was encouraged to move over full time to our commercial team where I found I was meant to be, where I could soar. One could say that I just “fell” into the insurance industry, but I know that God “placed” me exactly where I was supposed to be, not only in the industry but in the right community and agency. I have enjoyed getting to know my commercial clients, learning about their businesses and needs, servicing their policies, and increasing my knowledge of business insurance. My goal is to use my insurance experience to protect my client’s most important assets so that they can focus on succeeding in their business.
I really enjoy helping people and working in this field gives me the opportunity to do that in many ways. I’m supporting our team to help clients to purchase something they can’t see or feel so that they are prepared for some of the most difficult times in their lives. What I have discovered in the insurance industry is it is a never ending learning experience. There’s always something more to learn. It’s constantly changing and you just have to be ready to adapt to it. There’s never a dull moment, and I don’t always go to work knowing what will happen next but, whatever happens I’m always prepared for it. Operations managers get to solve problems daily, while interacting with their team & clients. Unlike finance or marketing which (while important) put you more on the edge of the business, I get to be directly involved in supporting our team to assist our clients. My ultimate goal is to maintain and increase the efficiency of the agency.
A lifelong resident of Catawba County and graduate of Appalachian State University, Cayla joined our agency in the summer of 2018. She enjoys serving our community and is involved in several organizations such as Hickory Young Professionals, BNI’s Foothills Referral Network and is an active member at Soma Church in Hickory. Cayla enjoys working with business owners to learn about their company and the potential risk they face. She is continually looking for opportunities to continue her education and knowledge of Insurance to better serve her clients. Cayla has a passion for helping others and seeing her clients succeed. When she is not working, she enjoys staying active, spending time with friends and family and taking her dogs to the park.
As a young energetic woman, I had two very dear friends who were in the insurance business. Both of them worked for separate independent agencies, and were always talking about how interesting and educational their jobs were. They got to meet new people from all walks of life, and help those people understand the ever changing insurance world. Eventually they convinced me to join in on the excitement. Thirty-two years later, I am still assisting many of my first clients work through changes in their life. I enjoy “learning something new every day”; sharing my knowledge with those clients, and advising them on wise choices for their insurance needs.

I have been insured with this agency since 1992. I have always had positive experiences with agents that took care of my changing needs throughout the years.
